The High Roller describes the story of Ungar, how he since an early age learned from his mother to play poker. Young Stu gets mixed up with mafia led by Vincent and becomes totally dependent on him. And letting himself in for trouble with gangsters, Stu has to flee to Las Vegas, as even Vincent cannot protect him. In Las Vegas, Ungar again gets mixed up with gangsters, represented by Leo, and starts to play poker again.
