How to Play Five Card Draw Poker – Rules for Beginners

Five Card Draw is a poker game, which is one of the most popular in the world. Today, it is represented in all the world’s casinos and even in many slot machines. Moreover, it is one of the easiest poker varieties, that is why very often it is the game the beginners start with. However, in tournaments it is represented quite rarely. Now, it’s kind of a home game, however, it is still incredibly popular and interesting due to its form and simplicity.

It is interesting that 5 Card Draw Poker is considered to be one of the ancestors of today’s popular games such as Texas Holdem and Seven Card Stud.

Basic rules of the game

Like in many other variations of poker, in Draw Poker there is a dealer, who is usually one of the players. There is also a forced bet, which forms the original pot.

After the ante, all the players at the table are dealt 5 hole cards. The first to act is the player to the left of the dealer. He can fold, call or discard.

If the first player folds, then the next one can pass. It is possible until the first bet is made. After that, the next player can either call or raise. Of course, you can discard if it can lead to winning result.

After the first round of betting, the player has an opportunity to replace any of his cards with the new ones from the deck. Replacement is face-down, so other players cannot see the cards. But it often happens that while replacement there are no cards left in the deck. In this case discarded cards are used again, but before dealing the dealer reshuffles them thoroughly.

Then there is the second round of betting, where bets are already higher than those in the first round. After the second round the showdown takes place. The victory is awarded to the player with the highest poker hand (the standard procedure of determining the winners). Moreover, the first to show his / her cards is the player who was active in the last round of betting.

As you can see, everything is really incredibly easy and simple! You can practice playing 5 Card Draw Poker for free right away at Full Tilt Poker.
